Kisumu brothers turn passion into a Sh25m IT firm

Many successful entrepreneurs among members of the Asian community in Kisumu trace their fortunes to inheritance, but not Satwinder Singh and Kuljeet Singh Rupra who have built one of the biggest IT firms in western Kenya.

Unlike his peers who went knocking on office doors for a job opportunity upon graduation and others who took positions in family businesses, Satwinder armed with a Bachelor of Science degree in IT and the love for computers set out to leave a mark in a field he had interest in since childhood.

Winner of Kenya Top 40 Under 40 Men 2021

Dr Satwinder draws his inspiration from the words of former South African President Nelson Mandela. Just like the anti-apartheid revolutionary leader, he believes that education is the most powerful weapon which one can use to change the world.

Despite setting up a flourishing information technology firm in Kisumu, this did not deter him from pursuing his passion in education and attaining a doctoral degree.

“I had to do a delicate balancing act to maintain my nascent business while ensuring that I also excelled in my academics.”

His interest in the field of IT was ignited a year after graduating with a degree in IT from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in 2007.
